Methodology

Page history last edited by Angeliki Triantafyllaki 15 years, 2 months ago

This page maps the research design, approaches and data collection tools of the creative interventions project.

Please scroll down to view the research questions, a bibliography on the research approaches/tools the project uses, and draft interview questions for both students and tutors. Your comments are much appreciated!

Working research questions (as of 09.01.09)

How is work-related learning in the public and third sectors encountered during a creative arts higher education, valued and fostered by students, tutors and employers?

1. What types of work-related learning experiences do creative arts students have in the public, not-for-profit and voluntary work contexts?

a. What value do stakeholders ascribe to these experiences?

b. To what extent do they link to student’s career aspirations?

2. How do stakeholders perceive that creative learning developed via a higher education transfers into contexts beyond the HEI?

3. How can the student work-related experiences provided by both curriculum-based and extra-curricular activities be recognised and valued?

4. What are the generic creative agencies that enable learners to tackle challenging situations and problems in work related learning, and how are we teaching these?

Following the 2 Oct project team meeting, Angeliki and I have been working on the research questions. We agreed that we required an over-arching, context-setting umbrella question, and 3 sub-questions addressing the key themes. As follows:

How is public and third sector work-related learning, encountered during a creative arts higher education, fostered and valued by students, tutors and employers?

1. What types of work-related learning experiences do art, design and media students have in the public, not-for-profit and voluntary work contexts?
a. What value do stakeholders ascribe to these experiences?
b. To what extent do they link to student’s career aspirations?

2. How do stakeholders perceive that creative learning developed via an art, design and media education transfers into contexts beyond the HEI?

3. How can the student work-related experiences provided by both curriculum-based and extra-curricular activities be recognised and valued?

What do you think?

Could questions 2 and 3 also have 'to what extent'?

They could indeed Margo! Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

Norman - I've added the 'creative agency' question we discussed in last week's meeting. Please can you take a look and amend if necessary? When Angeliki and I saw Kirsten on Friday she suggested adding the part about 'how are we teaching these?' which made sense to us. What do you think?

Hello,
I have added a concept map started by Angeliki, and then further developed in a meeting with Alison & myself this week. Angeliki devised the initial version to help her structure the literature review but we all found it useful to help us locate the project at the centre of a map of the key concepts. The project is represented by the colourful, hectic looking bit in the middle!
